Interpreting the Chart & Key Considerations :

Garment Length: As shown, the starting point depends on the style.

  • Pullovers: Always measure from the Center Back Neck straight down to the bottom hem. This most accurately reflects the length on your body.
  • Open-Front Cardigans: Measure from the Front Neck straight down to the hem.
  • Chest/Bust Circumference: This is the most critical measurement.    Method: As illustrated, measure straight across the sweater from 1-2 cm below the armhole. Multiply this number by 2 to get the full circumference.
  • Sleeve Length: Measure straight from the shoulder seam edge down to the end of the cuff.
  • Shoulder Width: Measure straight across from the left shoulder seam edge to the right one.
  • Hem Circumference: Measure straight across the bottom hem from one side to the other, then multiply by 2.
  • Sleeve Width: This indicates the looseness of the sleeve. Lay the sleeve flat and measure straight across at the underarm point, then multiply by 2.

Measurement Focus for Different Styles

  • Turtleneck / Mockneck Sweaters:  Add a Collar Height measurement: Measure from the top of the fully unfolded collar down to where it connects to the shoulder seam.
  • Cardigans:  Remember to measure the garment length from the front neck, as described above.       If needed, you can measure the Placket Width.
  • Oversized Sweaters:  The core method remains the same, but pay extra attention to the “Sleeve Width” and “Hem Circumference,” which define its relaxed silhouette.     Understand that the length and chest measurements are intentionally larger than standard sizes; choose based on your desired level of “oversizedness.”

Pro Tips :

  • Use a Reference: Take the measurements of a sweater you already own and that fits perfectly. This “ideal data” is your most reliable reference when choosing a new size.
  • Check the Brand’s Size Chart: Sizing varies between brands. Always rely on the brand’s specific centimeter/inch measurements, not just the generic S, M, L size codes.

By following these steps, you can confidently perform professional-grade measurements for any sweater style.
